ORAETHIS Oraethis emerges from the darkness of a black background, surrounded by the glow of gold and copper, where the face of a mysterious woman merges with the Uraeus — the royal cobra, a symbol of sovereignty, protection, and wisdom in ancient Egypt. But the mystery of this painting lies beyond its symbolism. Oraethis is a name that came to me in a dream, before I knew how this woman would look. I wrote it down on a piece of paper, afraid I might forget it. I did not search for its meaning, nor did I take it from any ancient language. Later, I discovered by chance that its sound carries a distant echo of the world of the Uraeus, associated with the royal cobra. I did not choose the name because of this coincidence. The name came first… and the story came afterward. Perhaps that is why I do not wish to give Oraethis a single, definitive meaning. Who was she? That question belongs to the viewer.
